2022 Platinum Jubilee Celebrations

Queen

Preparations to celebrate Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee began a few months prior to June 2nd and its associated weekend. The Parish council purchase a Holm Oak tree which would be planted in East End Park.

A suitable plaque was sought and purchased, this would be mounted on a suitable wooden post. Once planted a safety wrought iron cage will be placed around it.

JUBILEE

It had been declared that this event would be a four day bank holiday weekend so the country could celebrate this historic event, starting on Thursday 2nd and concluding on Sunday 5th June.

It was agreed that we should erect a flag and some bunting at the crossroads, and if possible include our Langtoft village sign. This was duly carried out by some councillors and volunteers.

They then moved on to use the remaining bunting at East End Park in preparation for Sunday's event.

Our Church had also been adorned with celebratory decorations, here are a couple.Jubilee

Several village events were organised. With thought for allowing others to make their own arrangements it was decided that Friday and Saturday would be left clear.

Thursday evening was given over to us playing our part in the International Beacon lighting that took place at 21:45. Our village Beacon was kindly donated from grants Langtoft Festival and Fete 2021 received from SKDC. We needed a large area that would be safe for an unknown number of people attending when it would be dark and dependent upon the weather.

Where is somewhere central to our village? Oh yes the Waggon and Horses pub! Richard & Deborah were very happy to offer the use of their garden area, they also hired a group called Filthy Contact to add to the festivity. The setting up for the beacon, its gas bottles and safety fencing was undertaken by Andy Halfhide, LPC Chairman; and Andy Hallam LPC vice chairman.

The weather was excellent; a clear sky, a hint of breeze and dry. The pub garden was full to the brim and everyone had a terrific time. As 21:45 approached it was time to light the Beacon.

Jubilee

It was great that Filthy Contact lead the large crowd in singing the National anthem and nearly everyone joined in, terrific!

Friday; Several Street parties were organised by villagers, some took place in peoples gardens.

JubileeSaturday; Some more Street parties took place.

jubileeSunday; Some volunteers had erected large party tents in East End Park in readiness for todays event. This was to be Picnic in the Park with some music and singing performed by a local semi-professional duo. However the weather had turned very wet and stormy and it was decided to change the venue to the Village Hall. Volunteers were rounded up and hasty decorations adorned the village hall.

Jubilee

As this was now an indoor event all the planned activities had to be quickly re-organised.

Jubilee

There was a Village Jubilee cake purchased with some of the grant money that had been donated to the Langtoft Festival and Fete by SKDC.

JubileeIt had been decided that everyone in attendance should have a piece of cake. Some volunteers delivered some cake to the more senior citizens of the Parish, thank you.

Later in the afternoon the entertainment started, this was performed by Tony & Rachel Munns. Their act was thoroughly enjoyed by all, there were some well known songs that others joined in with, and was closed by everyone singing the National Anthem.

Jubilee

Overall the entire weekend went well considering the change of venue and the excellent weather on the Thursday evening. Thanks goes to the Parish Councillors and the many other volunteers who assisted over these days. Thank you to those that attended and who later stated that it was a lovely celebration.

A good community spirit was exhibited by many and long may it continue and grow.
